Information Systems Strategic planning is one of the most crucial components of any CIO's job responsibilities. CEO's are becoming more dependent on the CIO and IT to provide solutions for cost reduction and improved productivity. Performing a needs assessment of critical areas in a hospital is vital to developing a functional strategic plan. Including key people such as physician's and nursing executives are essential to developing a solid plan that will be accepted by all levels of the organization.
I have been instrumental in developing and implementing several IT Strategic Plans with documented success of improving the overall performance of an organization; from improving physician satisfaction, minimizing HIM staff, reducing days in accounts receivables, and significantly reducing supply costs.
